Not so random thought: One nation under “god” (June 21, 2011)

Just a thought:

I think it may be time for “under God” to be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Many Americans don’t believe in God.

Many (ie: Muslims, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons) Americans claim to believe in a “god” but it is not the true God of the Bible.

Should Christians claim to be “one nation, under God” with those who oppose Christ?

I don’t think so.

What if Muslims were to become the majority and change the pledge to “one nation, under Allah”. Would Christians protest? I’m sure of it.

How about doing unto others… (Luke 6:31)

Including a reference to a generic “god” in the Pledge of Allegiance does no one any good. A generic “god” is no “god” at all. It’s an idol.

Get rid of it. In fact, get rid of the pledge altogether.

Remember the government bragging about the profitability of the “investment” in General Motors? Turns out we (the taxpayers) lost about $84 billion.

Remember the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailouts?

The top six executives at the companies received $35.4 million over the two years. Since Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taken over in September 2008, the companies’ mounting mortgage losses have required a $153 billion infusion from taxpayers. Total losses may reach $363 billion through 2013, according to government estimates.

Except for the Arizona law mentioned, which is great news, I wish I could tell you the above stories were April Fools’ Day jokes. Unfortunately, I fear they are all true.

Memorizing the book of Philippians is going well. Week two comes to a close tomorrow and I doing pretty well with verses 1-11 of the first chapter. My memory isn’t what it used to be but it’s OK. Slow, but OK.

I’m happy for the Auburn football team. They have accomplished what few do. War Eagle!!!

Call me cynical. Yesterday’s “memorial service” was a national disgrace. Can you say political rally?

Regarding the shooting, Dan Phillips asks:

Do liberals/Democrats have any solution for any problem that doesn’t hinge on robbing others of their rights or resources? Ever?

At least one politician wants to ban talk radio as a result of the shooting.

One last thing about the shooting: I have not regretted for a moment my decision years ago to stop watching the main stream media.

Windermere (FL)  police Chief Daniel Saylor is in a bit of trouble. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators Wednesday arrested Saylor and accused him of shutting down an investigation into a friend accused of raping a child. I bet he’s going to be real popular in prison if he’s convicted.

Here are a few thugs that need a big helping of justice. They, like the police chief above, may be popular in prison.

Somewhat Random Thoughts about Christmas 2010

My mom visited us for Christmas. It was the best Christmas ever!

My wife continues to receive Christmas ornaments as gifts from some of her students. As a result, our tree gets better looking all the time. Don’t tell anybody but I actually threw away some old ornaments this year.

The best news I heard all Christmas was when Christi told me: Stan, you need to go shopping for a purse for my mom!

I love shopping! Purses is just one of my specialties. My son called me the morning of Christmas Eve and asked if I would go shopping with him.

With everyone over on Christmas Eve, Christi asked everyone what their all time favorite Christmas gift was. Mine was a Christmas card from her before we were married. She included a picture of her with Santa. Inside the card she wrote XOXOXO. I had no idea what that meant until my sister read the card a couple of hours later and told me that Christi must really like me. At that point I was over the moon! And still am!!!

My mom told me the next day that if she were asked again what was her all time favorite Christmas gift she would say it was the (Brighton) charm bracelet* I (designed and) bought for her this Christmas.

I also gave Christi a (Pandora) charm bracelet* with the charms telling the story of some of our life together. The charms are all made of sterling silver as our 25th (silver) anniversary is in February. I told her I would be added a few things specifically for our anniversary.

I also put together a collection of music for Christi as part of our Silver Anniversary celebration. A partial list (with links to Amazon.com) can be found here. When Aaron and I went shopping Christmas Eve we listened to some of the songs. After completing our mission, he called me Master Mix.

I plan on taking my tree down after the BCS championship game.

War Eagle!

* I purchased both charm bracelets from a unique boutique, Walk on Water. The customer service I received (at both the Lake Mary and Winter Park stores) was exceptional. I will definitely be shopping there again!

Remember Pearl Harbor.

Democratic FCC commissioner is suggesting we need federal regulations to ensure diversity in news reporting. Not news reporters but the actual news content.

Speaking of the FCC, some of our dumber citizens contacted them recently to complain about the public’s voting patterns for Dancing With the Stars. To which I say:

Idiots of the world: shut up and dial!!!

The “outrage” over WikiLeaks is tiring. Rather than being upset with WikiLeaks, it seems to me they should be upset with the stupid and immoral behavior uncovered by WikiLeaks.

Our never-ending war on terror rages on with policies that boggle the mind. We’re playing catch-and-release with the Taliban. We catch them in battle. Karzai and his ilk complain about it. We release them to kill more Americans and NATO forces. This is just more evidence that the war on terror needs to end. People are dying for games such as this one. Our leaders in Washington should be thankful that political fragging takes place in the voting booth away from Washington and without grenades.
